What a great ending to the week with the beautiful weather! Thanks go out to all of the children that participated in the countdown to good health with Nurse Diane. Kindergarten won for the most participants in February so we earned an extra recess today for that achievement!
Don't forget to sell those flowers this weekend! It is the last weekend to do so and there are a lot of great prizes left!
A new change is happening in the Media Center for kindergarten this last quarter of school. Mrs. Williams is giving those kids that do not have overdue books the option of checking out 2 books instead of just one per week. This is to help them get used to being able to check out up to 4 books in first grade. This was very exciting for everyone in our room when they heard about this change!
We have a lot of fun activities planned for next week for the entire school! Mrs. Klinginsmith is going to "unveil" the plans to the students during announcements on Monday- but here is a sneak peak: The children are going to showcase their leadership skills that we have been working on all school year and try to earn a "ticket" each day. If everyone in our classroom earns a ticket, then we will receive a reward for the next school day. Rewards have not been worked out yet, but stay tuned. They could be anything from an extra recess, to a pajama day, sit with a friend, etc. Then, we are going to try to earn the "big" reward of a movie on Thursday complete with a beach towel and a snack. Every child has earned a leadership t-shirt for their hard work this school year too. These will be sent home on Wednesday of next week and we are asking that the kids wear them to school on Thursday to help celebrate! I will send home remind texts to let you know about which reward we have earned each day.
After Spring Break we have several fun activities planned for the kids in kindergarten! Our first big activity is going to be our study of a chick life cycle to go along with our science standards. We are going to pick up a dozen eggs from the Hamilton County 4-H, complete with an incubator. Then we will wait (not so patiently for 21 days to pass) to see what chicks hatch. This is always an exciting time in kindergarten!
Next week we will be wrapping up our persuasive writing unit and the class is really excited to bring home all of the letters that we have been writing. Coming up with convincing details was the most difficult part for a good majority of kids, but I think everyone had a good time creating letters to prove their point. At the end of next week, I will send home all of the writing samples from the month of March for you to have at home. Some things to look for would be: is there a greeting? Did the writer ask questions? Did the writing state their opinion? I am very proud of all of the growth that I have been seeing in everyone these past months!
Have a great weekend!
Here you will find all of the up to date information about Room A and Kindergarten.

Canvas Time!
We have been busy learning about Canvas these past few weeks in the classroom. The kids have been enjoying using IPads to post responses to discussion questions in class. I have sent out an email to each parent on how to sign up to be an observer through your child's account to view what we have been doing.
Service Project
As part of our leadership time this school year, we have decided to practice some of the 7 Habits and do a service project for our community. We are teaming up with our Fifth Grade Buddies to write letters to the residents of the Green House Cottages of Carmel. We are practicing our letter writing skills and practicing conversational writing as well. We worked with our buddies last Friday and we will work with them again this Friday to finish up our letters. I will be delivering the letters when we are finished. The kids have been having a lot of fun coming up with what to talk about. Here are a couple of pictures from last Friday.
Flower Sale
The flower sale is in full swing! We have yet to get in our first order turned in. Here is more information in case you need it. I have purchased these flowers for several years and have had the best luck with them lasting over the summer during the heat and being some of the fullest flowers that I purchase!

Fun Friday Facts...
It was definitely hard to beat the weather this week! We had so much fun during recess all week long! The class even enjoyed having their gym time outside as well.
This week in class we have started our new writing unit on persuasive writing. So far, we have talked about different problems that a person could have and then we have discussed that one way to try and solve that problem would be to write it down. We have spent the week working on including a beginning sentence, reasons for the problem as our details, and then writing a closing sentence at the end of the story. This has been a popular activity all week long!
For our OG time, we are working on learning about closed syllables. These are consonant-vowel-consonant words (flip, cat, mug, etc.) The children have learned that when the syllable ends with a consonant we consider the syllable to be closed and therefore the vowel is short as well. We have practiced marking and reading real words and sill words (nonsense words) when working on this pattern. Next week, we are going to work on learning a new syllable pattern in class.
As a quick reminder, please do not let your child bring in toys to school. We have several children that are doing this in the classroom and the toys are becoming a distraction for everyone. As a rule, we ask that you do not send toys in at all unless you hear from me directly. Thanks so much for your help with this.
The updates are short and sweet today, just like our week! Have a great weekend!

Friday Fun Facts!
Happy Friday! It was a great week for us to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. Recess was an exciting part of our day this week! A big thank you to all of the parents that joined us for the Valentine party! It was a great success because of you. The class is still talking about how much fun they all had on Tuesday.
We have a couple of great activities coming up at CE. First, if you are interested in ordering a yearbook, you can do that now until March 30th. A flyer was sent home earlier with the detailed information. If you need another one, feel free to let me know. Also, next Friday night is Family Fitness Night. This is a fun activity for all of the family to come and learn about your health and enjoy participating in some healthy activities as well.
We wrapped up our socials studies unit on families this week in class. We talked about what it means to be a family and how families get along. We also learned about what kinds of activities families can do together.
The children have been working really hard on their writing over the course of this week. I have been so excited to share with the class all of the great things I have been seeing. During the past two days, we have been focused on including a closing sentence when writing a story. We talked about how a closing sentence could be a question or a feeling statement. Next week, we will begin a writing unit on persuasive stories.
During our OG time this week, we worked on the phonemes -ck, and -ed. The children learned that you would write a -ck at the end of a short word after a short vowel. We also discussed how -ed has three different sounds. Next week, we are going to bump up our instruction in class and start working on syllabication in the classroom. This is a time when we work on learning how to analyze the different syllables in a word.
As a quick reminder- No school on Monday. Have a great President's Day weekend!
