100 Book Club

Congratulations!

Friday Facts

What a great day we have had today!  I want to thank everyone for meeting with me for conferences!  It was great to share  all of the wonderful things that are happening in our classroom!

We had a special convocation today to celebrate CE meeting our fall fundraising goal. We enjoyed Thaddeus Rex!
We also had a great couple of days celebrating red ribbon week.

This week we have been working on describing words in class. We are trying to apply it to our writing. It has been great to hear the detailed sentences the kids are coming up with.

It is hard to believe that November is just around the corner!  I will be collecting binders next Wednesday. We will be updating goals and getting them back out to you by the end of the week.

Have a great weekend!

100 Book Club

Congratulations!

Friday Facts!

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope everybody had a great Fall Break.  I have enjoyed hearing all of the many stories of the fun adventures from all of the kids this week!  What a week it has been too!  We filled up our "brownie pan" and earned a popcorn party in class yesterday.  If we receive a compliment from another adult when we are out of the classroom, we earn a brownie.  After 12 compliments, we get to have a fun reward.  We are hard at work already since we have received 2 compliments today!

We have started our writing workshop in the classroom this week.  We are hard at work learning all of the procedures for this new task and the class is doing a great job!  Our goal this week has been to get a picture on the paper with some words that match.  I have told the kids that this can be a difficult job.  We have also talked about what to do when a writer gets stuck on a word they do not know how to spell.  Some strategies we brainstormed about were: using our OG sounds, finger spell the word, say the word slowly and listen for the sounds you can hear, or ask for help as a last resort.  We are keeping our stories in a writers notebook.  At the end of each month, I will send home the stories for you to keep.

During our OG time in class, I have been focusing in on starting to blend words.  This has two purposes.  It teaches the children a strategy to use when reading an unknown word and it also helps children when trying to write.  We will continue to practice this and much more!

Since our conferences are scheduled for next Thursday, I plan on doing a binder check and make goal changes for the children on Monday, November 2nd.  If you could please send in the binders on that date, I would appreciate it!  Thank you so much for all of the hard work that is happening at home.  It is really starting to show in the classroom.  The kids are more and more confident about their reading and writing everyday!

We have a lot of great things happening in the next couple of days!  See below for what is coming up:

Almost Friday Facts!

Wow!  It was a great leadership day at CE!  We started the day out right with everyone getting their leadership tshirts. We all looked great!
It has been fun teaching about the 7 habits and we have been working hard on practicing them each day at school. At the end of the day we had a special convocation where we all came together to celebrate the great things happening in our building. We even filmed a short message that should be aired on Wish tv 8 during their morning show. When I find out the date, I will pass it on to you. Here are some more pictures from this afternoon.

Have a great Fall Break!

Handwashing Class

Today we learned about proper handwashing skills. The kids had fun cleaning their hands and putting on some special lotion to check for germs. It was great listening in to the conversations the kids were having about proper handwashing skills and germs!

Leadership Binders and other facts...

Yesterday I sent home a leadership binder for each child in the classroom.  We have spent some time talking about goals and what they are and why they are important.  As a class, we then set a goal to try and clip up at least one time each day.  We discussed that in order to clip up, a child would need to be practicing the 7 leaderships habits that we have been learning about in the classroom.  A second part of our goal process is to have an individual goal as well.  These were selected for each child and that is the information that is contained in the binders.  You can keep the binders at home with you and you can keep all of the work you do in those binders.  Every Friday, I am going to do a "binder check" and have the kids bring the binders back to me at school.  This way I can check in and see what progress is being made for each child.  My first check will be on Thursday, October 15th due to Fall Break.  If you feel that I need to see them sooner than that, please feel free to send them in to me with the parent communication page filled out so I know what to look for.  Otherwise, I will wait until "check days" to look at them.

Some important dates that are coming up:

Thursday, October 8th: Picture Day

Friday and Monday, October 16, 19: Fall Break, No School

Thursday and Friday, October 22-23rd: Donuts with Dad and Book Fair at CE (more information will be sent home when it is getting closer)

This week in class we are learning about pumpkins.  We have read several books about the life cycle of pumpkins and have had a lot of great conversation about how a pumpkin grows.  Today, we talked about how a pumpkin is a fruit and compared it to what we know about apples growing.  We also talked about how a pumpkin is different than an apple.

Our shared reading this week is talking about farm animals and what happens on a farm to help us answer the question "How are animals different?"  This has been a fun time in the classroom because the children have a lot of background information to bring to our discussions!

During our Social Studies time, we are learning about how to be a good friend and talking about what it looks like to be a good friend.  This chapter in our book ties in really well with our 7 leadership habits that we are learning about.

Have a great rest of the week!
