Friday Facts!

Happy Friday!  It is hard to imagine that it is the end of February already!  I have seen so much growth in everyone since the beginning of the semester.  Keep working on those data binder goals as the semester goes along.  I hope they have been as helpful for you at home as they have been for me at school this year!  I will do a binder check on Friday, March 11th to check in with the children and see how they are doing.

This week we talked about teeth to celebrate Dental Health Month.  We spent a lot of time having discussions about the tooth fairy, loose teeth, and dental heath facts.  A fun wrap up for this discussion is every child is bringing home a toothbrush and toothpaste sample from Colgate.  It is a great program where the class learns about how to brush their teeth and why it is important to brush your teeth each day.

Next week is our field trip.  I have sent home a permission slip for each child to return to school on Monday.  Everyone has paid for the trip back in December, all I need is for you to fill out the paper and return it to school.  We will be missing our regular lunch time that day so when we return back to school, we will be eating in our classroom.  The lunch choice for that day will be either a lunch from home or a sack lunch from the cafeteria.  Please keep in mind that the sack lunch from the cafeteria isn't what is the sack lunch on the menu for that day.  It typically is a PBJ sandwich and sides.

Wow! We are working so hard in OG.  I am so excited with what I see in the classroom each day.  This week we have learned about the floss rule and the rule for -ck.  See if your child can explain those rules to you.  We are also working hard on sentence dictation.  This is a chance for each child to practice everything we have been working on in the classroom.  The sentences will contain sight words, new "rule" words, and words they have to sound out.  In the next couple of weeks we will start doing syllable work in the classroom.  This is where we take words and learn to break them apart into syllables in order to read them correctly.  This is a great skill that allows children to be able to read just about any unknown word they come across.

Speaking of reading, it is not too late to start your 100 book club booklet.  It is super easy!  All you have to do is keep track of the books you read each night and then send in the blue book when you hit the milestones.

We have finished up our unit in writing where we learned about writing "how-to" stories.  This was a unit for the children to write how-to stories that would teach the reader how to complete a task.  We talked about how each step needed to be detailed in order to follow it, each step needed to be numbered, we practiced using bold faced words to draw attention, and we even partnered up to check the steps of a story to make sure it was complete.  We are now moving on to our next writing unit where we are going to learn about persuasive stories.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

100 Day Fun

We celebrated the 100th day of school. We had a great time learning about the number 100 and even made a 100th day snack.

100 Book Club

Congratulations!

Writing Partners

We are working on writing how-to stories in class where we teach someone how to do an activity. Part of our writing process includes sharing the story with a partner to check for all of the steps. I was blown away with the great feedback each partner group shared with each other.

Valentine's Day Party

Thanks so much for such a wonderful party!  The class really enjoyed it and everyone was really excited to take the valentines home to open them up!

Clifford Came to Visit
